ILOILO City – The city government’s Public Employment Service Office (PESO) will have a special recruitment activity (SRA) for “graduates” of the Community Change Center called Crossroads in Jaro on April 26 at the district’s gym.
“It was Mayor Jed Patrick Mabilog who initiated the available job opportunities for drug surrenderees. He wanted to give them a chance and help them find work,” said PESO head Ma. Elena Benitez.
Interested applicants should bring their resumés.
“One big business center will be opening and we are hoping that they will be joining the hiring activity,” revealed Benitez.
During the first SRA on March 9 at the La Paz district gymnasium, 11 workers were hired on the spot, out of 38 drug applicants from La Paz and Lapuz districts.
Some 13 workers were hired on the spot while 25 were qualified during the second SRA for the City Proper.
One international firm and four local companies joined the first two SRAs offering carpentry, masonry, janitorial, gardening and welding.
Participating companies also gave free spiritual consultation to the applicants.
Mabilog said the initiative proved fruitful and beneficial to those who want to transform their lives from the menace of drug abuse.
He also encouraged the beneficiaries to avail themselves of the free services such as skills trainings at the Technical Institute of Iloilo City for technical-vocational courses and livelihood opportunities referred by the PESO.
Some 207 former drug dependents finished their three-month rehabilitation activities in community-based drop-in centers in seven districts in January.
They were required to report weekly for after-care services such as random drug testing and counseling, among others. (Iloilo City PIO/PN)
