BACOLOD City – The city government is extending financial assistance to the athletes and coaches who will represent Bacolod in the Palarong Pambansa.
City hall will give the Department of Education (DepEd) Division of Bacolod City P3.548 million, as approved by the Sangguniang Panlungsod.
Palarong Pambansa will be held from April 23 to 29. Antique province is hosting it.
The budget will come from the Special Education Fund, Councilor Caesar Distrito said.
It will cover food, transportation, billeting, and other essential needs of the athletes on top of what the DepEd provides, he said.
In February the city council also approved an P8.6-million financial assistance for the city athletes participating in the Palarong Negros Island Region (NIR) 2017 from Feb. 24 to March 1 in Dumaguete City, Negros Oriental.
Represented by 398 athletes, Bacolod was declared overall champion with 178 gold medals.
City hall gave the winning athletes in March cash incentives totaling P302,500.
“You have become historical figures because this is the very first Palarong NIR ever held,” Mayor Evelio Leonardia told the athletes during a ceremony for the giving of cash incentives./PN
