ILOILO City – A special recruitment activity organized by the Public Employment Service Office (PESO) will be held for drug surrenderers in Jaro district on April 26 at the Jaro gymnasium.
Cookie Benitez, PESO head, disclosed that the event is an initiative of the city government to give drug surrenderers a “second chance.”
“The city wants to give a second chance to drug surrenderers,” Benitez said. “There’s already our rehabilitation center which helps them. For the part of PESO, we will give them employment … opportunities to help them find work.”
Benitez said the PESO invited international and local companies to join the activity. Janitorial, technical and housekeeping jobs are available.
She also told the drug surrenderers, who graduated from the city’s drug rehabilitation program in January, to prepare relevant documents for the special recruitment event.
“I told the drug surrenderers to prepare their resume, certificates and themselves for the interview so that they will be hired. They can show to the employers that they are fit to work and totally drug-free,” the PESO chief said.
On March 9, the PESO held the same activity for drug surrenderers in La Paz and La Puz districts. Eleven were hired on the spot.
On April 4, 13 were hired during the event held at City Proper.
Benitez said PESO is still waiting for the companies to submit the names of the new hires. “I’m still waiting for companies to submit data from the special recruitment activity so that I can submit it to Mayor [Jed] Mabilog.”/PN
