ILOILO City – Two seven-year-old girls in Barangay Badu, Calinog, Iloilo claimed two masked men tried to abduct them.

Around 5 p.m. on April 20 they were walking to a store when a white van stopped, then the masked men offered them candies and a ride, they told their parents.

Scared, the girls said they ran as fast as they could and hid behind thick bamboos.

After the van had left, the girls went home and told their respective parents what happened. Barangay officials were then alerted.

According to Calinog police chief Senior Inspector Kennith Bermejo, his men conducted a manhunt after the barangay officials informed them about the girls’ story. The cops, however, failed to find the van.

“We could not be sure if the two men were really kidnappers. But we do not discount the possibility that there were, indeed, kidnappers. We are investigating this,” said Bermejo.

He urged parents to warn their children against entertaining strangers or walking alone./PN
