BACOLOD City – His boss received information that the traffic enforcer who reportedly jumped off a bridge in Barangay Alijis actually fell.
The 26-year-old Miguel Biñas may be suspended if the report that he was drunk at the time is true, according to Superintendent Luisito Acebuche, head of the Bacolod Traffic Authority Office (BTAO).
Biñas, a job-order casual employee of the city government from Barangay Bata, will be subject to investigation, Acebuche said.
Acebuche said on Wednesday he learned that Biñas’ father, in a radio interview, claimed his drunken son fell off the bridge while urinating.
Mayor Evelio Leonardia prohibits traffic enforcers from reporting for duty when drunk or to drink liquor while at work, Acebuche stressed.
The BTAO head said he will recommend for Biñas’ suspension if his father’s claim is true.
In addition, Acebuche said he will write Leonardia to propose a “retraining program” and physical and mental checkups for the 390 BTAO enforcers.
Earlier the BTAO chief said he tried to ask Biñas what really happened, but to no avail.
The enforcer was “tulalâ kag parang wala sa sarili,” said Acebuche.
Biñas was assigned at the Panaad Park in the nearby Barangay Mansilingan to regulate traffic during the Panaad sa Negros at the time of the incident on Monday.
A 26-year-old married resident of Barangay Bata, the traffic enforcer was taken to the Corazon Locsin Montelibano Memorial Regional Hospital for the treatment of his injuries on the forehead and right leg. He was released on Tuesday./PN
