KALIBO, Aklan – Rescuers and medical responders from Kalibo and the Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP) provincial office won the 4th Aklan Provincial Rescuelympics at the Calangcang Sports Complex in Makato town.
Kalibo bested 11 other Municipal Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Offices for the P50,000 top prize.
Batan and Banga settled for second and third places for P40,000 and P30,000, respectively.
Rescue teams from Altavas, Buruanga, Ibajay, Libacao, Madalag, Makato, Malinao, Nabas and Tangalan also joined the April 20 contest. They received P5,000 each.
Kalibo was also adjudged Best in Basic Life Support, Best in First Aid Scenario and Best in Display of Rescue Equipment. Batan was Best in Firefighting and Best in Water Search and Rescue, while Banga bagged Best In Uniform.
Kalibo and Batan both won Best in Safety Analysis.
Special award winners took home P5,000 and a plaque of recognition each.
The BFP-Aklan brought home the P30,000 top prize in the Inter-response Group category. Philippine Army’s 601st Infantry Brigade (601IB) was second place and got P20,000, while Saint Gabriel College – Emergency Medical Services (SGC-EMS) settled for third place and P10,000 cash.
All winners also received plaques of recognition.
Aklan Police Provincial Office (APPO), Philippine Coast Guard, Philippine Red Cross, Philippine Army 3rd Division’s 12th Infantry Battalion, and Philippine Air Force Reservist were runners-up. They got P5,000 each.
The BFP also won Best in Hose Relay and Best in Vehicular Extrication, while APPO was Best in Basic Life Support and Best in Safety Analysis. The 601IB was Best in Knot Tying, while SGC-EMS was Best in Triage.
Special award winners brought home P2,000 and a plaque of recognition each.
Meanwhile Aklan Catholic College (ACC) won over Aklan State University (ASU) in the interschool category. The former got P15,000 and the latter, P10,000.
ACC also won Best in Bandaging, Best in Firefighting and Best in Emergency Rescue Transfer, while ASU was Best in Basic Life Support. They were given P2,000 and a plaque of recognition each for the special awards.
The Rescuelympics aimed to test the readiness and competence of municipalities, government agencies, schools, and volunteer groups in responding to emergencies.
