ILOILO City – An overheating power bank caused people to panic at the pre-departure area of the Iloilo Airport in Cabatuan, Iloilo yesterday.
People saw smoke coming from a bag left on a seat around 10 a.m. and they feared it was a bomb.
The airport’s operation was halted and only resumed after bomb experts determined that what was in the bag – it was not a bomb but a cellphone power bank that overheated.
The responding policemen belonged to the Explosive and Ordnance Division of the Police Regional Office 6. They ordered people to vacate the area.
The bag was owned by a certain Julian Heart Dalumpines of Iloilo City who was bound for Metro Manila. It passed the airport’s x-ray screening.
After the airport was declared safe, its operation resumed.
Following the incident, Superintendent Edgardo Rivera of the airport’s aviation security ordered a more stringent inspection of baggage./PN
