ILOILO City – Policemen caught two men playing tumbo or cara y cruz in Barangay Sto. Niño Sur, Arevalo district.

Marcelino Abrot, 60, and Lydio Taso, 44, were detained at the Arevalo police station around 12:40 a.m. yesterday. Both were residents of the barangay.

Police recovered from the suspects three coins and bet money reaching P670.

Tumbo involves three coins of the same kind being tossed up in the air while the bettors hope luck are on their side; that once settled on the ground, all the three coins would show up as either “hari” or “corona” (king or crown).

According to the police, the suspects may be charged with violating Presidential Decree 1602 that outlaws illegal gambling./PN
