BACOLOD City — One of the suspects in robbing a businessman in Kabankalan City was killed in a shootout with the police.

Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (CIDG) personnel were about to serve an arrest warrant to July Garol in his house when the suspect fired at them.

Garol’s response led to an exchange of gunshots. He succumbed to multiple gunshot wounds in the body.

Garol was part of the group behind robberies in Barangay Bantayan in Kabankalan, according to Superintendent Salvador Dagoon, city police chief.

His group held up and shot to death Tuesday last week Ronnie Quillano, a peanut trader, in Purok Villa of the hinterland village, and robbed on July 28 Danilo Liza, 32, of Cauayan town in Sitio Maba-og, also in Barangay Bantayan.

Past 10 p.m. on Thursday last week, Garol and his cohorts were having a drinking spree in the barangay proper when CIDG personnel arrived.

Garol left and cautiously went home in Sitio Nursery, Barangay Bantayan on Friday dawn, but CIDG personnel spotted him when the dogs barked.

When the police introduced themselves, the suspect fired at them, said the responding team leader, Chief Inspector Cresenciano Cordero.

Cordero apologized to Garol’s family but insisted that they only intended to serve the suspect’s arrest warrant./PN
