ILOILO City – Another exciting local basketball and volleyball league is set to unfold as the 2017 Biron Cup Inter-municipality Basketball and Volleyball League opens today at the Barotac Nuevo Gym.
Biron Cup director Ruding Villaruz told Panay News that the tournament, which will use a home-and-away format, has drawn 27 teams for the men’s basketball event, 19 for men’s volleyball and 11 for women’s volleyball.
The Ilonggo sportsman added that the teams in men’s basketball and volleyball have been divided into four brackets, while the women’s volleyball participants have been grouped in two based on their municipality.
In men’s basketball, Bracket A features Janiuay, Pavia, Cabatuan, Bingawan, Mina, and New Lucena; Bracket B has Leganes, Santa Barbara, Alimodian, San Miguel, and Oton; Bracket C has Carles, Anilao, Passi, Duenas, Barotac Nuevo, Barotac Viejo, San Enrique, and Banate; and in Bracket D are Estancia, Sara, Balasan, San Dionisio, Lemery, Ajuy, and Dumangas.
In men’s volleyball, Bracket A will have Bingawan, Santa Barbara, New Lucena, Pavia, Oton, and San Miguel; Bracket B has Miag-ao, Guimbal, Janiuay, Mina, and San Joaquin; Bracket C will have Dingle, Concepcion, Passi, and Lemery, and in Bracket D are Anilao, Balasan, Dumangas and Barotac Viejo.
In women’s volleyball, the Bracket A has Santa Barbara, Janiuay, San Miguel, New Lucena, Oton, Pavia, and San Joaquin, and in Bracket B are Barotac Viejo, Bingawan, Dumangas, and Balasan.
“This will surely be another exciting sporting event with all the teams putting up a competitive lineup,” said Villaruz. “This is a first of a kind. Thirty-one municipalities, one component city in one league.”
