ILOILO City – The Sta. Clarita International School Primes and CenterPhil Montessori Silver Knights advanced to the finals in the high school division of the 2017 Iloilo City Invitational Basketball League (Mayor’s Cup -1st Conference) after beating their semifinals foes on Saturday.

Top seed Primes booked a ticket to the best-of-three championship series after beating the No. 4 ranked Sun Yat Sen High School, 99-86, at the Barangay Katilingban Gym.

John Sajonia finished with 20 points to lead the way for the Primes, which in the process also avenged its 99-61 defeat to Sun Yat Sen in the season-opener on May 13.

“We are happy to be in the finals but the work does not stop there,” said Primes head coach Rodel Camacho. “We will now prepare for our championship series since we know that it will be a tough one.”

The No. 2 seed Silver Knights, meanwhile, relied on the 22-point explosion of Mark Cleofas to score a 114-109 victory over the No. 3 ranked St. Roberts International Academy.

Like in their elimination round encounter, the game was tight from start to finish with the Silver Knights sitting on a 58-54 halftime lead and 84-80 after 30 minutes before hanging on in the end to preserve the win.

In the 40 and up category, the Iloilo PROS and PISAI team have set up a best-of-three championship series after disposing their semifinals foes Double B (96-56) and Iloilo Exec (72-62), respectively.

The 2017 Iloilo City Invitational Basketball Tournament, also known as the Mayor’s Cup -1st Conference, is organized by the Iloilo City Government and presented by Flanax and Bonamine./PN
