ILOILO City – Is suspected drug lord Richard Prevendido hiding in the house of his sister, Barangay Captain Remia Prevendido Gregori in Bakhaw, Mandurriao district?
The Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) Region 6 wanted to inspect Gregori’s house but its operatives were not allowed to come in, according to Deputy Regional Director Levi Ortiz.
Ortiz admitted they did not have a search warrant.
“We received text messages that Prevendido was hiding in his sister’s house. We went there but she refused to let us in,” said Ortiz.
This was in March, said Ortiz, two months after the Regional Trial Court, Branch 21 issued an arrest warrant against Prevendido on Jan. 6, 2017 for violation of Section 11 (possession of dangerous drugs) of the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002. Judge Daniel Antonio Gerardo Amular did not recommend a bail bond.
Prevendido was charged following the raid of his house on Oct. 21, 2016. Shabu worth P1.3 million was seized.
PDEA-6 actually applied for a search warrant against Gregori but failed to get one, said Ortiz.
Their witness got cold feet at the last minute and decided not to testify in court that, indeed, he saw Prevendido in Gregori’s house, he explained.
“We received information from this concerned citizen about Prevendido so we applied for a search warrant but natakot,” lamented Ortiz.
The PDEA deputy regional director believes Prevendido is getting help from family members.
“Blood is thicker than water. Who else will protect him? Who will buy his food and other needs,” said Ortiz.
In previous radio interviews, Gregori claimed having no idea where her brother was.
Ortiz, however, believed the suspect has contact with his family and trusted friends.
“Those protecting Prevendido may be charged criminally with harboring a criminal,” he said. “It is impossible that his family and relatives have no contact with him.”
Gregori was one of the three barangay captains that the city council recently investigated for the continued proliferation of illegal drugs in their respective areas. The two others were Keith “Dabing” Espinosa of Monica-Blumentritt, City Proper and Noemi Jablo of Desamparados, Jaro.
On Monday, the Police Regional Office 6 (PRO-6) urged Gregori to present herself to the police for “biological” profiling. PDEA-6 has classified her a “high-value target, level 2.”
“If Gregori refuses to surrender, we will subject her to an antidrug operation,” said Senior Superintendent Christopher Tambungan, PRO-6’s overall committee chairman on illegal drugs./PN
