BACOLOD City – The Teresita L. Jalandoni Provincial Hospital in Silay City needs additional hemodialysis machines, according to Mayor Mark Golez.
During the visit of Sen. JV Ejercito, chairman of the Committee on Health, Golez said the hospital’s seven dialysis machine cannot anymore accommodate all hemodialysis patients.
Ejercito was in the city to conduct an inspection on provincial hospitals.
The senator explained that he wanted an actual inspection to see the situation of hospitals in the country.
“I want to know the situation of different hospitals in the country, to know what they lack and what they need being designated as chair of the Committee on Health,” Ejercito said.
He said he hopes to facilitate the acquisition of costly medical equipment to improve the services of provincial hospitals.
MEETING WITH FARMERS
The senator, who was the guest of the Silay City government for its 60th Charter Anniversary and Independence Day celebrations, also had a meeting with sugar farmers.
He told them that he has already authored measures to revitalize the sugarcane industry.
These were the Anti-Agricultural Smuggling Act of 2016. Under this law, smuggling activity in the country will be stopped to revive the sugar industry.
Once smuggled agricultural products come into the country, it will lower down the cost of selling, affecting the sugar farmers, Ejercito explained.
Another was the Sugarcane Industry Development Act of 2015, which the senator said will provide funding and necessary modernization to help revive and reenergize the sugar industry in Negros./PN
