ILOILO City – Twenty-three people were injured when a passenger bus fell off the edge of the road in Barangay Tinocuan, Dingle, Iloilo yesterday.

The Jamindan Express bus was bound for the nearby Dueñas town when it lost brakes, police investigation showed.

Driver Joel Barredo, 51, of Mambusao, Capiz was fractured on both legs.

Twenty-two passengers sustained minor injuries.

They were all taken to the Iloilo Provincial Hospital.

Barredo tried to apply brakes but to no avail. He then drove the bus past the road shoulder to avoid crashing against a preceding trailer truck, the municipal police chief Senior Inspector Samuel Vipinosa told Panay News.

Barredo was later referred to a hospital in Iloilo City.

He might face a charge for reckless imprudence resulting to multiple injuries, Vipinosa said./PN
