BACOLOD City – The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) is eyeing to start the rehabilitation of the Bacolod City public plaza in July.

On Wednesday, the Sangguniang Panlungsod already approved a resolution allowing the implementation of the project.

Cong. Greg Gasataya said the project needs to be finished by end of September this year.

“So by the first week of July, the rehabilitation will probably start after the DPWH has awarded the winning contractor,” he said, adding that the bidding already started this week.

The DPWH national office has allocated P10 million from its 2017 budget for the rehabilitation project.

Meanwhile, Mayor Evelio Leonardia earlier said Sen. Juan Miguel Zubiri initially pledged P10 million for the beautification and renovation of the public plaza and other places of interest in Bacolod City.

Recently, the senator told the mayor that he will facilitate more in next year’s budget.

The mayor hopes that the beautification and renovation of the plaza will be finished in time for the MassKara Festival in October.

At the same time, the city government is also implementing a P5-million project to renovate the comfort rooms and administrative office in the public plaza for this year’s festival.

Leonardia also advised Gasataya and the DPWH to focus on the park’s lighting, fountains, and benches./PN
