ILOILO City – A varsity basketball player of Central Philippine University shot himself on the head after his mother scolded him for poor grades.
The 26-year-old Jade Francis Paclibar, a resident of Barangay Pamuringao Garrido, Cabatuan, Iloilo, died at the Iloilo Doctor’s Hospital around 1:14 p.m. yesterday, some five hours after he shot himself using a .45 pistol.
According to Chief Inspector Engelbert Banquillo, Cabatuan police chief, the mother confronted Paclibar over poor grades around 8:15 a.m.
Paclibar entered his room and a few minutes later a burst of gunfire was heard.
The mother checked the room and found her son on the bed, his head bleeding. Near her son was a .45 pistol.
From what the police so far gathered, Paclibar was yet to graduate.
“The family was convinced this was a suicide but our investigation will continue,” said Banquillo.
For one, the police wanted to ascertain who owned the .45 pistol.
“None from among the family members admitted ownership of the gun,” said Banquillo.
If the pistol was not licensed, the owner would be charged with violation of the Comprehensive Firearms and Ammunition Regulation Act, he said.
The Cabatuan police recovered the gun./PN
