MANILA — The money raised through a nationwide telethon in November last year in Thailand to aid areas affected by super typhoon “Yolanda” was handed over to the Philippine government.
Thailand Ambassador to the Philippines Prasas Prasasvinitchai presented a $622,243.39 check (roughly P27.2 million) to Foreign Affairs Secretary Albert del Rosario.
Serving as additional donation from the government and people of Thailand, the amount was raised through the initiative led by deposed Thai Prime Minister Yingluck Shinawatra.
A simple handover ceremony was held at the Department of Foreign Affairs.
Thelsa Biolena, director of the Disaster Risk Reduction and Response Operations Office of the Department of Social Welfare and Development, attended.
