MANILA – Ceres-Negros renewed their dominance over Stallion-Laguna with a 5-2 victory in the 2017 Philippines Football League yesterday at the Panaad Park and Stadium in Bacolod City.

Philippine Azkals mainstays Stephan Schrock, Jeffrey Christiaens, Iain Ramsay, and Jose Elmer Porteria and Spanish striker Bienvenido Marañon scored a goal each for Ceres, which is on a three-game winning run.

Ceres quickly got into the scoring column as Schrock took advantage of a bad clearance from Stallion in the 13th minute. The lead was quickly doubled minutes later on a close hit by Christiaens.

Just before the halftime break, the Negros Occidental-based football team was able to add 2 more conversions courtesy of Ramsay and Porteria, who both took advantage of a sloppy defense by Stallion.

Ceres widened the lead further early in the second half with Marañon draining his seventh goal of the season. Stallion managed to trim the final score with back-to-back hits from Ilonggo Ruben Doctora and Terrence Linatoc.

With the victory, Ceres moved up to third place in the standings with 13 points on four wins, one draw and a loss, while Stallion are at the cellar, with 3 points on three draws and five losses.

Meanwhile Phil Younghusband scored the go-ahead goal as Meralco Manila Sparks got back on the winning track with a 1-0 victory over Ilocos United at the Quirino Stadium in Vigan.

Meralco Manila Sparks, which came from back-to-back draws, regained the solo first place in the standings with 20 points, while Ilocos United remained winless and had 2 points total./PN
