ILOILO City – Inspired by the successful raid on Taiwanese and Chinese nationals for cyber pornography and fraud, the Police Regional Office 6 (PRO-6) will be conducting a 10-day seminar workshop starting today for the police in Camp Delgado.
According to Superintendent Gilbert Gorero of the Iloilo City Police Office (ICPO), the seminar will focus on the cyber crime law and how are they perpetrated.
“Each police station in the region will have one participant represent. This seminar is a big help to us to learn more on cyber crime law,” Gorero said.
Last month, 44 Taiwanese and Chinese nationals in Iloilo City allegedly victimizing nationals in their countries were arrested in rented houses in Mandurriao and La Paz districts.
The raid was based on a search warrant for violation of Republic Act 8484 (Access Devices Regulation Act) issued July 7 by Judge Rainelda Estacio-Montesa, presiding judge of the Manila Regional Trial Court, Branch 46.
Most of their victims were other Taiwanese and Chinese nationals against whom they had concocted stories charging them with non-payment of debts and threatening them with prosecution or arrest.
They would then offer to help resolve the concocted problem for a fee or by accepting the payment.
On the other hand, the Regional Criminal Investigation and Detection Unit in Lapuz district arrested four women, including a 16-year-old girl, for allegedly posing nude and performing sexual acts online.
Also arrested during the raid was the boarding house owner, Helen Delotavo who denied knowledge of the cyber pornography operation./PN
