KALIBO, Aklan – The coastal waters of Aklan are free from red tide, the Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources (BFAR) said.
BFAR’s bulletin on Aug. 15 showed that shellfishes collected from the waters of Batan, Altavas and New Washington were red-tide free.
International and domestic tourists are fond of eating shrimps, oysters, squids and fishes from these towns.
Shellfishes and alamang from Carles, Iloilo were reported to be positive of the red tide toxin.
BFAR advised the public to thoroughly wash fishes, shrimps and squids before cooking.
Prior to the latest red tide bulletin, BFAR lifted the shellfish ban in the markets of Carles on April 4.
Red tide affected areas also include the Villareal, Maqueda and Irong-irong in Western Samar; Matarinao in Eastern Samar; Balite in Mati, Davao Oriental; Mandaon and Placer in Masbate; and Puerto Princesa in Palawan. (Aklan Forum Journal/PN)
