ARCHBISHOP Socrates Villegas and for whom will the bells in Lingayen-Dagupan toll? Will it be for the 13-year-old girl threatened with a gun and raped by Monsignor Arnel Lagarejos or will they toll for the faceless altar boys molested by your fellow priests?

And will the bells toll for the 44 troopers of the Philippine National Police’s Special Action Force or SAF who were sent by that nincompoop Noynoy Aquino to be massacred in Mamasapano?

Will the bells also toll for the farmers massacred in Mendiola and Kidapawan?

I guess not the bells will toll for the supposedly victims of the war against illegal drugs which will basically be drug addicts and pushers plus some drug lords i.e. Mayor Espinosa of Albuera, Leyte, Mayor Parojinog of Ozamiz and, of course, Melvin Odicta Sr. of Iloilo City .

I supposed Archbishop Socrates Villegas’ heart is really for the poor, downtrodden and oppressed members of society, never mind that between the three dead drug lords their amassed wealth from illegal drugs is probably enough to finance a small country.

What about the victims of the drug addicts? The five-year-old little girl raped, killed and dumped in the river by her drug-crazed grandfather and uncle or the university student raped and killed by a drug addict?

No, the bells will not toll for them as Archbishop Socrates Villegas’ heart does not bleed for them, only for the drug addicts, pushers and drug lords.

The only reason for all these drama, grandstanding and now ringing of the church bells is that Archbishop Socrates Villegas does not like President Rodrigo Duterte; hate is such a strong word.

President Rodrigo Duterte is not disente enough for him unlike that incompetent Mar “Daang Matuwid” Roxas or that nincompoop Noynoy Aquino, heaven forbid Rodrigo Duterte curses with putang ina in every other sentence he utters.

In his desperation to be the next “Cardinal Sin”, Archbishop Socrates Villegas is doing everything he can to paint Duterte as evil and bring him down, including making saints and martyrs of drug addicts and pushers.

The latest stunt of Archbishop Socrates Villegas is necro-politics or political necrophilia by way of using the corpse of 17-year-old Kian Delos Santos a collateral damage of the drug war or suspected drug runner, depending on which side you’re on, as a rallying point against President Rodrigo Duterte.

From the Aug. 25 issue of Inquirer.net:

“Lingayen-Dagupan Archbishop Socrates Villegas said Sunday that church bells would be rung every night for three months across his northern district to raise alarm over a sharp spike in police killings of drug suspects, adding to a growing outcry over President Rodrigo Duterte’s bloody crackdown.

“Villegas said church bells would toll for 15 minutes nightly across his religious district from Tuesday to Nov. 27 to rouse a citizenry “which has become a coward in expressing anger against evil. The start and end of the protest mark days of Catholic veneration.”

On top of this, that “attention whore”  “running priest” Fr. Robert Reyes ran on Friday morning, Aug. 25, to the Caloocan police station where the officers who killed the high school student are assigned.

Reyes arrived at the Delos Santos residence, where the wake for the senior high school student was being held, around 7 a.m. He was then joined by friends of the slain youth, wearing white shirts with the message, “Justice for Kian,” in the run to Police Community Precinct 7.

Marathon or long distance running is an Olympic Sport and should never be used or tainted with political agenda, much more with political necrophilia. Fr. Robert Reyes must have gotten his inspiration from Adolf Hitler who used the 1939 Berlin Olympics to promote his Aryan Race Nazi Ideology.

For the uninitiated lost in translation:

For Whom the Bell Tolls is a novel by Ernest Hemingway published in 1940. The book’s title is taken from the metaphysical poet John Donne’s series of meditations and prayers on health, pain, and sickness published in 1624.

For Whom the Bell Tolls is an expression from a sermon by John Donne. Donne says that because we are all part of mankind, any person’s death is a loss to all of us: “Any man’s death diminishes me, because I am involved in mankind; and therefore never sends to know for whom the bell tolls; it tolls for thee.”

Let me end with an excerpt from The Adobo Chronicles:

“But Villegas told The Adobo Chronicles that he was misquoted by the Yellow news media.

What I said was that the church bells will ring to raise alarm over the increasing incidents and revelations of sexual abuse by Catholic priests,” the archbishop said.

Eh, yun naman pala. Clarification accepted. Oh well, one can only wish… (brotherlouie16@gmail.com/PN)
