MANILA – St. John’s Institute of Bacolod captured the overall championship in the elementary division of the 22nd Milo Little Olympics – Visayas Finals held recently at the SM Seaside City in Cebu.

St. John’s Institute amassed a total of 73.5 points to become the first school outside of Cebu City to claim the overall championship in the annual interschool league presented by Milo.

St. John’s Institute got most of its total points from swimming, where it had 60 points, followed by the basketball team with 10 points, taekwondo with 2.25 points and badminton with 1.25 points.

Among the standouts for St. John’s Institute were swimmer Jhanna Neri who captured five gold, one silver and one bronze medals, taekwondo jin Benjamin Pedroso and the elementary basketball team.
Finishing behind St. John’s Institute were Sacred Heart School-Ateneo with 56.25 points, University of Visayas with 51 points, Bayawan School with 50 points and Cebu City Central School with 43.5 points.
For winning the overall championship, St. John’s Institute took home P40,000 in cash.

The second and third placers got P20,000 and P10,000, respectively while the fourth and fifth placers bagged P5,000 and P3,000 cash prizes respectively.

In the secondary division, Bacolod Tay Tung High School settled for a fifth place finish with 66.75 points, behind University of San Carlos (198.5), University of Cebu (173), Abellana National School (115.5) and Sacred Heart School-Ateneo (98.75).
A total of 5,490 athletes from around the Visayas region have participated in the three-day Visayas Regional Finals. The annual meet had 15 sporting events, including 10 Olympic sports./PN
