MANILA – Five natives of Western Visayas are playing in the UAAP Season 80 men’s basketball tournament.

Two of them traced their roots from Bacolod City, while the other three were from Iloilo City and Aklan and Antique provinces.

Kirell “Kib” Montalbo of Bacolod City, team captain of defending champion De La Salle University Green Archers, is expected to lead defensively and offensively with his much-improved 3-point shooting.

UAAP Season 79 runner-up Ateneo de Manila University Blue Eagles, meanwhile, has the Ilonggo Ferdinand “Thirdy” Ravena III, who continues to be the team’s offensive source after improving his inside game.

Felix Jaboneta from San Jose de Buenavista, Antique is playing for University of the Philippines Maroons, Keith Zaldivar from Buruanga, Aklan is under Adamson University Falcons, and Kimlee Bayquin of Bacolod City is one of the Far Eastern University Tamaraws.

In UAAP Season 80 women’s basketball, two Western Visayas players are in active lineup.

Trixie Marie Antiquiera, who is showcasing her wares for the three-time defending champion National University Lady Bulldogs, and Christine Marie Aliermo of UP Lady Maroons are both from Bacolod City./PN
