ILOILO City – A casual employee of the city government was arrested with 11 others in Barangay San Jose, Arevalo district in an antidrug operation of the police.

The 37-year-old Noel Uy of Barangay General Hughes-Montes, City Proper was a member of the Iloilo City Anti-Smoking Task Force. He and his companions were taken to the Arevalo police station.

On Wednesday around 2:30 p.m., an undercover police officer bought from one of the suspects, 40-year-old Hamlin Querubin of Barangay Fundidor, Molo district, a sachet of shabu for P1,200, said Senior Inspector Jose Val Ladublan, Arevalo police chief.

The sale was consummated at the circumferential road, said Ladublan.

As Querubin was returning to a waiting van, the police poseur buyer followed him and saw 11 others (including Uy) in the van.

Fourteen sachets of shabu were found in the van, said Ladubman.

ICAST chief Iñigo Garingalao said he was saddened that one of his staff was arrested and linked by the police to illegal drugs.

Uy tested negative for illegal drugs when he applied for a post at ICAST, said Garingalao.

“Basi bag-o lang ‘ni sia nag intra,” he added.

Garingalao said Uy’s contract would have ended next month but due to his arrest, the suspect was immediately terminated from ICAST.

According to Ladublan, Uy, Querubin and the following suspects face a charge for violation of the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Ac of 2002: Noe Danucop, 36, of Alta Tierra Village, Jaro district; Loubert Alison, 38, of Barangay Cadinglian, Oton, Iloilo; Chino Dunares, 29, of Barangay Poblacion West, Oton, Iloilo; Troy Lacson, 27, of Barangay Jalandoni, Jaro district; Ma.
