MANILA – Philip Delarmino fell short on his gold medal bid after losing in the finals of the muay thai event of the 5th Asian Indoor and Martial Arts Games (AIMAG) in Ashgabat, Turkmenistan.

On Thursday night, the native of Dumangas, Iloilo suffered a close 30-27 defeat in the hands of Thai fighter Chotichanin Kokkrachai. It was a gold medal match of the 57 kilogram event at the Muay and Ju-jitsu Arena.
On his way to the finals, Delarmino defeated Mostafa Tabtoukhzadeh of Iran (29-28) in the round-of-16, Jakhangir Yuldashev of Uzbekistan (30-27) in the quarterfinals and Rüstem Baýramdurdyýew of Turkmenistan (30-27) in the semifinals.
Also falling short on his gold medal bid was bowler Kenneth Chua. He faltered at the tenpin bowling event against Thailand’s Annop Arromsaranon, 247-212.
Carlo Biado settled for bronze medal in men’s 9-ball singles after a 9-2 loss to Chinese-Taipei’s Jung-Lin Chan in the semifinals. Chezka Centeno, meanwhile, moved on to the finals at the distaff side.
The other bronze medallists were Al Rolan Llamas in the men’s -60 kilogram kurash, Francis Agojo in men’s -58 kilogram taekwondo and Jefferson Manatad in men’s classic style belt wrestling.
In chess, Ilonggo Eugene Torre opened his campaign in men’s standard individual with a win over Atippat Pornariyasombat of Thailand, Janelle Mae Frayna also defeatd Sarocha Chuemsakul in women’s side.
Losing their campaigns, on the other hand, are taekwondo jins Pauline Lopez and Arven Alcantara, billiards’ Efren “Bata” Reyes and Francisco “Django” Bustamante./PN
