IT WAS Friday. I had so many plans for that day that I woke up early.
On my way to the office, our legal secretary called me up and asked me if I could go to the office earlier than usual. I laughed and told her I’m on my way. She asked me to study a certain case and proceed to Roxas City for a 2 p.m. hearing.
I was a little bit nervy but excited at the same time because I will be revisiting Roxas City after almost a decade. I took an 11 a.m. bus ride. Again, I enjoyed the refreshing view of mountains and vast fields.
I stepped out of the bus and saw how improved the place had become, especially its transport terminal. I went to the Hall of Justice and proceeded with the court hearing.
After that, my client and I had a conversation. One of the things we talked about was the bus terminal. She told me that the transport terminal started its operation last June 2014. It had its civil works done to best cater to passengers all over Panay Island.
Yes, I saw how improved it is. It has a loading bay, offices, business stalls, comfort rooms, road networks, and the like. But what is considered one of its best practices was its Terminal Management Information System (TMIS).
The objective of this TMIS is “to facilitate and efficiently reduce queuing of vehicle operators or drivers in the payment of their terminal fees and to record all transactions electronically in a database, issue receipts and monitor statistically vehicle use of the facility.”
I also learned about how this project was implemented. The steps they had were: “project feasibility approval; acquisition and installation of hardware requirement; software design and development by in house programmer using a relational database management system (RDBMS); open source language adopted as front and backend platform; data encoding of required databases; connectivity improvement; parallel run and program debugging conducted; and system implementation.”
This is an effective way for terminal functions. It can monitor real time reporting of income from terminal operation as well as processed report for management information.
No doubt the city is growing. The accomplishments and developments show the economic enterprises of the city are rising. There is no need for statistics to prove this.
Roxas City is only one of those cities which have a realization of economic opportunities. Hopefully, others will also be like this with a wide range of products and services to offer to everyone.
