ILOILO – Gov. Arthur Defensor Sr. is preparing to make a “big announcement” but is not in a hurry to do so.
He’s making sure that when he finally makes the announcement, that would be it, he explained.
The announcement has to do with his transfer to the ruling Partido Democratiko Pilipino – Lakas ng Bayan (PDP-Laban) and possibly political developments concomitant with it.
“Accurate kag wala na liwat-liwat, wala na bawi-bawi,” Defensor told reporters.
The governor was supposed to make the announcement last week but decided to put the press in “suspended animation.”
“Indi pa kita kahatag announcement subong kay may mga bagay pa ko nga dapat i-clarify with our political leaders, with our allies sa Iloilo and with the Speaker of the House of Representative,” said Defensor.
It was House Speaker Pantaleon Alvarez, secretary general of PDP-Laban, who invited Defensor and son, Cong. Arthur Defensor Jr. of Iloilo’s 3rd District, to join the political party of President Rodrigo Duterte.
The other week, the governor confirmed meeting with mayors of the 2nd District (municipalities of Alimodian, Leganes, Leon, New Lucena, Pavia, San Miguel, Santa Barbara, and Zarraga).
League of Municipalities of the Philippines (LMP) Iloilo president Jett Rojas, mayor of Ajuy town, confirmed in an interview with the provincial capitol press that the governor also met with mayors of 5th District (municipalities of Ajuy, Balasan, Barotac Viejo, Batad, Carles, Concepcion, Estancia, Lemery, San Dionisio, San Rafael, and Sara).
“Hulat-hulata n’yo lang. Kay man indi ko gusto magliwat-liwat sang ginhambal ko. Kag kon mag-issue ako sang statement, accurate kag wala na liwat-liwat, wala na bawi-bawi. Amo na sa siling ko may i-clarify pa ko…para indi na ko magbawi-bawi,” said Defensor.
The governor cited “practical politics” in deciding to leave Liberal Party and join PDP-Laban. The political career of his congressman son was a big factor.
“I told PDP-Laban my son is interested to become governor. I made the message clear but up to that point lang,” said Defensor. “If Toto wants to win an election, the administration party can greatly help him. That is practical politics. That is the reality of politics. We don’t have the money to buy votes,” explained Defensor./PN
