MANILA â The Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) was still checking if Filipinos were among those killed or injured in a shooting at an open-ground concert in Las Vegas, Nevada.
More than 50 people were killed while hundreds were injured at the Route 91 Harvest country music festival in what was considered the deadliest mass shooting in the United States.
On Tuesday the DFA expressed sympathy to the families of the victims.
âWe mourn with the families of those who perished and hope for the speedy recovery of the more than 400 people who were reported injured,â said Secretary Alan Peter Cayetano.
âOur thoughts and prayers are with the American people today,â he added.
Cayetano described the mass shooting as a âdisturbing act of violence.â
According to the secretary, the Philippine Consulate General in Los Angeles continues to monitor developments and is in constant touch with authorities to determine if Filipinos were among the victims.
âWe are coordinating with Las Vegas police authorities and with leaders of the Filipino community to check on our kababayans there,â said Consul General Adelio Angelito Cruz.
About 131,000 Filipinos live in Nevada, a famous destination for many immigrants from the Philippines, Cruz said.
âWe hope and pray that all of them are safe and accounted for,â he said./PN
