ILOILO City – The Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (CIDG) arrested two gunrunning suspects yesterday in Barangay Gutao, Dingle, Iloilo.
Romeo Principe, 36, was a resident of Barangay Poblacion, Barotac Viejo, Iloilo while July Palma, 38, was a native of Barangay Gutao.
Around 3:30 p.m. an undercover police officer bought from the suspects a .40 pistol for P16,000.
Palma handed the gun to the buyer while Principe took the payment, said Inspector Pedro Celino of the CIDG.
The entrapment was carried out at Palma’s house.
Further recovered were another .40 pistol and a 12-gauge shotgun.
According to Celino, Principe was a suspected leader of a newly-formed criminal group operating in Iloilo’s 4th District and Palma was a member.
The group was into gunrunning, said Celino.
Prior to yesterday’s operation, “We tailed the suspects for two weeks,” he revealed.
Principe and Palma face charges for violation of the Comprehensive Firearms and Ammunition Regulation Act of 2002./PN
