F2 LOGISTICS Cargo Movers had a rousing debut in the Chooks To Go-Philippine Superliga Grand Prix after scoring 25-21, 20-25, 25-23, 25-22 against Petron Blaze Spikers at the University of St. La Salle â Bacolod gym.
Venezuelan import Maria Jose Perez led the way with 18 points while American Kennedy Bryan and Kim Dy chipped in with 14 markers apiece for Cargo Movers.
The teams exchanged leads early in the opening set on Saturday until Cargo Movers built a 20-16 lead after a block by Mary Joy Baron. Blaze Spikers rallied to get close 21-23 but back-to-back hits by Perez and Dy ended the set.
After losing the second set, Cargo Movers struggled in the third, going down by as much as 13-19, but Perez and Bryan took turns on the offensive to tie the count 23-all. An error by Blaze Spikers and a hit by Bryan closed the set.
Blaze Spikers kept in step with Cargo Movers early in the fourth 19-20 before the latter pulled away on back-to-back conversions by Perez.
âMasaya kasi nanalo kami ng first game,â said Cargo Movers head coach Ramil De Jesus. âPero iyon nga, first game pa lang. Marami pang kailangan ayusin. Wala pa talaga kami sa level na gusto namin.â
Hillary Hurley top-scored with 21 points while Frances Molina and Lindsay Stalzer added 13 markers apiece for Blaze Spikers, which dropped to second place (3-1 win-loss).
In the other match, Cocolife Asset Managers stunned Cignal HD Spikers 19-25, 24-26, 27-25, 25-16, 15-9 and recovered from a 0-2 win-loss deficit. Taylor Milton finished with 25 points while Shar Manu-Olevao had 23 markers for Cocolife./PN
