MANILA — It appears that the Senate investigation on the Makati City Hall Building 2 is providing publicity for the city’s facilities, said Sen. Nancy Binay.
Today, the Senate blue ribbon subcommittee will continue its inquiry on the alleged overpricing of the so-called Makati car parking building.
The committee, with senators Aquilino Pimentel III and Antonio Trillanes IV, on Tuesday conducted an ocular inspection of the building.
Citing architects invited to the inspection, Trillanes said the P2.2-billion building was not “world-class,” contrary to claims of the city’s Mayor Jejomar Erwin Binay Jr.
Trillanes said they also plan to inspect other buildings in Makati, such as the Ospital ng Makati, Makati Science High School and the University of Makati Nursing Building.
Senator Binay welcomed the plan.
“Halos bawat barangay nagpapatayo kami ng eskwelehan, nagpapatayo kami ng health center, so parang mayroon kaming free publicity kasi makikita ngayon sa buong Pilipinas kung ano ’yung mga facilities na na-a-avail ng mga taga-Makati,” she said.
Senator Binay stressed that the Makati City Hall Building 2 is “not just a parking facility.”
“It’s an office,” and there is no other local government unit building like it, she said.
The daughter of Vice President Jejomar Binay said the Senate investigation only aims to “grab attention without verifying the facts.”
It seems that the investigation would take a little more time, she said.
“Feeling ko from now until 2016 and beyond,” said the lady senator. “So parang gusto [nilang] mag-aksaya ng pera ng ating mga kababayan, ’di ba?”/PN
