AFTER junking the three impeachment raps against the president, Congress should have just kept its mouth shut instead of engaging in a futile exercise in explaining the “whys” behind its actions. We all know why. And that’s why we never asked why. We are not stupid.
But no, Congress had to explain why, thinking that we would just gobble up everything they said hook, line and sinker, believing that the motives that uncorked their bizarre behavior could forever lurk in the dark, acting like they were the only ones present when God gifted humanity with intelligence.
Alas, the more Congress tries to straighten what is unmistakably crooked, the more Filipinos feel their “representatives” are only insulting their intelligence. Their motives are as clear as daylight. To sum them all up, they all just want to lick Malacañang’s ass to keep pork barrel flowing into their own “pet” projects.
No doubt, these congressmen have only triumphed over good, promoting their evil interests. Every time they open their mouths to speak, we cringe. Every time they craft laws, we cringe. Every time they implement projects, we cringe. Why? Our reaction to everything they do is already habitual, an automatic response to a stimulus that has institutionalized itself.
Sad to say, Congress has become an institution of evil. It is nothing but a club of boot-lickers. It is nothing but a den of thieves. It is nothing but a house of ill-repute. Are these congressmen really representing us? Or, are they just using us to represent only themselves and their selfish interests? No doubt, self-aggrandizement has become the order of the day.
Congressmen don’t represent Filipinos, but only themselves, their genetic origin intricately woven into their raison d’être: the bastardization of logic to elevate idiocy to an art form. Isn’t it idiotic for them to keep training their sights only on the pork barrel at the expense of truth? Isn’t it idiotic for them to ignore truth just to keep themselves under the good graces of Malacañang? Isn’t it idiotic for them to live only in the present at the expense of the future?
If Congress has to have a face, then that is the face of Cong. Niel “Jun-jun” Tupas Jr. Let us remember how this man spoke about “truth” at the height of Corona impeachment trial and weep. Let us remember how this man spoke about the abolition of the Supreme Court’s judicial fund and weep. Let us remember how this man made his justice committee the seat of injustice and weep.
Congressman Tupas has epitomized the matuwid na daan culture Yes, it is matuwid na daan if it favors Malacañang. Yes, it is matuwid na daan if it covers up the president’s incompetence. Yes, it is matuwid na daan if it keeps freedom at bay as tyranny gains momentum, suffocating us.
Nobody has insulted our intelligence more than Congressman Jun-jun did. Every time he speaks, we see a man who believes he alone was present when God gifted humanity with intelligence. Every time he moves, we see a man moving on behalf of Malacañang. Every time he heads an investigation, we see a man promoting injustice even if “justice” is the noun modifier used to define his committee.
Indeed, Congress has degenerated into a whore house, prostituting itself to Malacañang. It does not represent the people anymore but just the president. It does not serve the people anymore but just the president. It does not legislate anymore for the common good but only translates into law the whims and caprices of a childish president.
What a shame./PN
