ILOILO City – Regional director Jim O Sampulna of the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) recently told forest rangers to “be always safe” while they are on their duties.
The forest rangers are the ones who “gather data in the mountainous area of the province” and are “dealing with rugged mountains” which “could endanger their lives,” according to Sampulna.
“If you do not know the way out of the mountain, you can be dead. Please be always safe as you go there. You are one of the important persons in the DENR,” Sampulna told the forest rangers.
The DENR assigns the rangers to patrol a 7-kilometer mountainous area every week using the LAWIN Protection System.
The LAWIN Protection System uses a mobile application called the CyberTracker, which allows the forest rangers to gather information on forest conditions that can be used to identify and implement forest management and enforcement strategies. (With DENR Region 6/PN)
