ILOILO City – The Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) Region 6 has recovered a Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (CIDG) identification card from a barangay captain arrested for illegal drugs in Barangay Dugwacan, Banate, Iloilo.
Is suspect Roger Belarde working for the now renamed Regional Criminal Investigation and Detection Unit (RCIDU)?
The identification card had the name of Belarde who claimed to be an “agent” of the police unit.
“Perhaps he was a former agent,” said Chief Inspector Fernnado Salvatierra of RCIDU.
He denied they were coddling drug personalities.
Belarde was arrested with wife Respe and nephew Richie. PDEA recovered 11 sachets of shabu and an unlicensed 12-gauge shotgun from their house.
Salvatierra said they recently called all identification cards of agents and that they started validating the backgrounds of their “assets.”
“We want to make sure all our agents have no derogatory records,” said Salvatierra.
He said he does not personally know Belarde.
“We will check the identification card to determine if it is authentic or fake,” he said./PN
