KALIBO, Aklan ā Police will be imposing a gun ban during the Ati-Atihan Festival in the capital town this month.
The gun ban is one of the measures of the police to make sure that revelers are safe during the entire celebration, which will be from Jan. 12 to 21.
Ati-Atihan is one of the most-sought after festival in Western Visayas. Local authorities are expecting a heavy influx of revelers this year.
According to Senior Police Officer 4 Renee Armenio of the Site Task Group Ati, the police aims for zero gun-related incidents during the festival.
Site Task Group Ati is assigned to secure the entire celebration of Ati-Atihan.
Armenio said the gun ban was already discussed with the leaders of tribes joining the Sadsad Ati-Atihan contest.
He added that permits to carry firearms outside residence will be suspended during the festival.
Only members of Armed Forces of the Philippines and Philippine National Police performing official duties and wearing their prescribed uniforms are exempted from the ban, he stressed.
Other security plans were discussed with the tribe leaders, Armenio added.
Revelers are advised that bringing of backpacks, deadly weapons, and bottled non-alcoholic and alcoholic drinks are not allowed in festival zones.
Smoking is also banned during the festival.
Site Task Group Ati will set up police assistance desks in strategic places in Kalibo. Police will also put up inner and outer border checkpoints.
Additional personnel from the Police Regional Office 6 will also be deployed to Aklan to augment local enforcers. (Aklan Forum Journal/PN)
