ILOILO City – Two middle-aged brothers in Barangay Bagacay, Tigbauan, Iloilo face rape charges.

Renerio Obal, 60, and younger brother Antonio, 56, were arrested on Tuesday and detained at the Tigbauan police station. A 13-year-old girl claimed they raped her.

The brothers admitted having sex with the girl but insisted it was consensual.

“Nagsugot man ko kay s’ya man nanghagad. Bayaran ko lang siya kuno P50,” said Antonio.

Under Philippine laws, sex with a minor is statutory rape.

“Wala ko s’ya ginpilit. Iya kagostohan ang natabo. Gin bayaran ko lang siya P20 kay wala ako kwarta,” said Antonio.

The girl’s parents alerted the police after their daughter told them she was raped.

The Obal brothers were caught around 4, p.m. on Tuesday, said Senior Inspector Hermogenes Eulatic, Tigbauan police chief.

Antonio said their sexual affair with the girl started on Jan. 2 around 3 p.m. in their house.

Their most recent encounter was on Jan. 9, said Antonio.

“This is a serious offense. The victim is a minor,” said Eulatic.

The girl was also mentally unstable, added the police chief./PN
