DISNEYLAND is a must-see attraction when you visit Hong Kong. Who would not even grab the chance to be a kid once again and enjoy the magical world of Disney? The good news is: Hong Kong is just a two-hour flight away from Iloilo. And promo fares have been becoming frequent, making us pack our bags and fly to one of our dream destinations.
Of course, Disneyland will always be part of the itinerary. Aside from the shopping and food tripping, it is a necessity to see Mickey and his friends because dude, we all grew up with them. Although it is great to visit the theme park any time of the year, travel website markmyvisit.com notes that the best time to visit is during March to April.
If you’re planning to see this wonderland on Lantau Island, here are some tips I’ve gathered from personal experience and other travel websites:
Do: Wear something comfortable
Unless you are planning to make Disneyland your runway, kindly make it sure that you are wearing comfortable clothes. You will be walking, running, climbing, riding, and so on and so forth. Wedges? Maybe that’s a bad idea. A comfortable pair of shoes and your go-to outfit are recommended.
Prestigious fashion website whowhatwear.com says the first thing to consider when visiting Disneyland is shoes. “Since you’ll be on your feet all day, comfort is key. You can’t go wrong with a pair of sneakers.”
Also, choose a simple bag. A crossbody bag will do. Don’t bring a bag that is as big as Mickey’s head. Are you going to bring your whole room with you?
Don’t: Play with the character’s dresses
We know Belle’s dress is stunning. But please resist the temptation of touching her gown or playing with her hair. Sure, you can hug the characters and mascots. But be more considerate. Some parents just let their kids pull a mascot’s clothes.
Do: Visit on a weekday
Weekdays have less crowds and minimal lines. Try to avoid visiting during school and public holidays. When you visit, try to get there before the opening time (or the rope drop).
Freelance travel writer Marianne Rogerson (mumonthemove.com) shares her experience: “The Disneyland Hong Kong opening hours start at 10 a.m., so one of my best Hong Kong Disneyland tips is to get there at 9.45 a.m. at the latest, as there will already be a queue to get through the turnstiles.”
“The good news is they do start letting you in before the park opens, but you can only access Main Street,” she reveals.
Don’t: Cut lines
Some rides and shows will always have overwhelming lines. Be respectful enough and wait for your turn. Don’t just go around there pushing people just because you’re too eager to see Winnie the Pooh. Everybody is, too!
Do: Take pictures responsibly
Some people spend too many minutes in a certain spot just to take a picture. We get it, it’s all for the Gram. But there are too many people who also want to take a picture in that spot. One to two shots and you’re done.
Also, there are people especially in groups who would ask you to take their photo. Go. They will take your photo in return.
Don’t: Stay on your phones
People these days want to instantly share their Disneyland experience on social media. Some are just extreme; every move, every ride, every spot – they share everything to the point that the whole Disneyland thing gets dominated by their eagerness to post. Enjoy your experience first. Your friends on Facebook can surely wait.
Do: Watch your kids
You’re in the middle of 28 hectares of land full of sceneries straight out of a Disney movie. Your kids will surely roam around and get excited to see stuff. Watch them and do not let them be out of your sight. Disneyland is too vast to find someone. Instead of remembering the theme park as a wonderland, your kids will probably remember it as a place where they couldn’t find their parents and bawled out in the middle of the afternoon parade.
But the best tip among these tips is to just enjoy because Disneyland is surely the happiest place on Earth./PN
