ILOILO City – A suspected thief was accused of using his own son in picking the pocket of a 19-year-old Dinagyang Festival opening salvo spectator.

The victim, Steven Puda Jr., arrested with the help of a policeman the 38-year-old Ernesto Guevara Jr. on Jan. 12, a police report showed.

Puda told the police he was watching Dinagyang tribe teaser performances at Judging Area No. 4 at the Quezon-Ledesma intersection when he felt someone bumped him twice.

Guevara was pushing the leg of his 4-year-old son whom he was carrying against the right side of Puda’s body, claimed the victim, a resident of Barangay Ingore, La Paz.

Suspicious, Puda looked around and found his P4,000 Samsung Galaxy J2 smartphone, which he originally placed in the front right pocket of his pants, already in the hand of Guevara, the police report stated.

Puda seized his phone and called Police Officer 3 Rico Montelijao, who helped him accost the suspect.

Guevara, a resident of Barangay Rizal Palapala II, City Proper, was detained at the custodial facility of Police Station 1 while his son was turned over to the police’s Women and Children Protection Desk./PN
