ILOILO City – Fifteen contingents are participating in the Dinagyang Festival’s drum, lyre and bugle competition Tambor Trumpa Martsa Musika on Jan. 26.

Twelve schools are competing in the elementary level. These are the following:

* San Joaquin Elementary School

* Banate Central Elementary School

* Sambag Elementary School

* Jaro I Elementary School

* Arevalo Elementary School

* Feliciana Java Kelly Elementary School

* La Paz I Elementary School

* Iloilo Central Elementary School

* Mandurriao Elementary School

* Rizal Elementary School

* A. Montes I Elementary School

* Dingle Central Elementary School

Last year, only seven elementary schools participated.

The three participants in the secondary level are Ramon Avanceña National High School, Ajuy National High School and Dingle National High School.

Aside from drums, lyres and bugles, this year’s contest will allow the participants to use tambourines (for elementary level) and trumpets (secondary level).

“Every year we have innovations,” said MAPEH Education Program Supervisor Freddie Gallardo of the Department of Education’s Division of Iloilo City Schools.

The champion in the elementary level will receive P25,000.

The first runner-up will get P20,000; second runner-up, P15,000; third runner-up, P10,000; and fourth runner-up, P8,000 plus trophies.

Non-winning contingents will each get a consolation prize of P5,000.

In the secondary level, the champion will receive P30,000; first runner-up, P25,000; and second runner-up, P20,000 plus trophies.

There will be special awards (with trophies as prizes). These are: best in performance, best in costume, best in music and best in discipline.
