MANILA – Two mayors from Iloilo province whom President Rodrigo Duterte linked to the illegal drug trade have been “cleared” before they joined the ruling party, Presidential Spokesman Harry Roque told Panay News.
Mariano Malones of Maasin town and Alex Centena of Calinog town were sworn in as new members of the Partido Demokratiko Pilipino – Lakas ng Bayan during a mass oath-taking ceremony in the municipality of Pototan on Thursday last week.
“Their names [were] cleared before they were allowed to take their oath as PDP-Laban [members],” Roque told this paper in an interview.
In August 2016, Duterte tagged four Iloilo mayors as “drug protectors.”
The other two were Siegfredo Betita of Carles and Jed Patrick Mabilog of Iloilo City. They all denied involvement in the drug trade./PN
