MANILA – Ceres Negros FC of the Philippines is up for another acid test when it faces Brisbane Roar of Australia in the second phase of the 2018 AFC Champions League Qualifiers today at the QSAC Stadium in Queensland.

The 7:30 p.m. match is crucial. A defeat to the Australian team will end the journey of the Negros Occidental-based club in the tournament.

And if Ceres Negros historically moves past the second round, it will have another tough assignment next week – against Tiankin Quajin of China – before making it to the tournament proper.

Tonight’s match will not be televised but fans may get updates via the Ceres Negros’ Facebook and Twitter pages.

Veteran busmen Martin Steuble and Michael Casas were optimistic that their long flight to Australia on Sunday will have a positive result.

“There’s no other way to get here but we’re happy that we made it,” Steuble said in an article on the team’s website. “I think we are confident enough that we will have a good game.”

“It was a long flight, and our first was tiring because the plane was small and full so everyone cannot sleep,” said Casas. “We just hope to have a better showing against (Roar) so that all of this will pay off.”

Also in the team are Bienvenido Marañon, Patrick Reichelt, Omid Nazari, Kevin Ingreso, Manuel Ott, OJ Porteria, Stephan Schröck, Manuel Herrera, Carli de Murga, Jim Junior Muñoz, Jeffrey Christiaens, Eduard Sacapaño, Nessi Ramos, Joshua Dutosme, Arnie Pasinabo, Toni Doblas, Mike Ott, Sean Patrick Kane, and Takumi Uesato./PN
