FABSON Solane captured the 1st Ganzon Cup Big Shots Sports Basketball League championship after a 76-74 win over Toto Tia Ten Trucking in the knockout finals at the gymnasium in Barangay Katilingban, Molo, Iloilo City.

Behind the collective effort of Season MVP Bongbong Talimay, Finals MVP Edu Allado and Maymay Paroginog, Fabson Solane staved off a poor start on Sunday night to clinch the inaugural title.

Toto Tia Ten had a decent start and took the advantage at the half. Fabson slowly gained control of the game in the third frame with hits from Paroginog and Allado.

Fabson was comfortably ahead midway in the fourth, with Allado hitting shots. Toto Tia Ten launched a huge endgame rally but this fell short with Fabson tightening its defense in the final seconds.

“It’s a total team effort for us,” said Fabson head coach Jay Pisueña. “We expected that Toto Tia Ten will come out with a huge challenge because we had a close match during the eliminations.”

Named part of the Mythical Team were his Fabson teammates Matthew Montalvo and Nicolas Billones, and Toto Tia Ten’s Delbert Toreno, Andy Ticson and Elvin Lencioco.

On their way to the finals, Fabson won via default against J. Cordon Construction while Toto Tia Ten scored a 77-67 victory over Starr VA Sports/Asialink.

With J. Cordon absent in the semifinals, the third place trophy was automatically awarded to Starr VA Sports/Asialink, tournament commissioner Rudolpho Ganzon said./PN
