Woman stabbed to death, helper hurt in Granada

BACOLOD City – Officers from Police Station 5 arrested a man who fatally stabbed a woman and injured her helper in Purok 6, Barangay Granada in a follow-up operation around 8 a.m. yesterday.

Chief Inspector Sherlock Gabana, commander of Police Station 5, identified the man as the 27-year-old Sandy Sevilla of Barangay Buenavista, Escalante City, Negros Occidental.

Sevilla – who was temporarily residing in Hacienda Carmen, Barangay Granada with his live-in partner and son – attacked with a knife the 41-year-old Nunistell Mae Lee when the latter found him hiding in a comfort room outside her house around 6:40 a.m. on the same day.

Sevilla was planning to rob the house, police said.

Lee sustained 13 stab wounds on the different parts of the body. She was rushed to The Doctors’ Hospital in the city where the attending physician pronounced her “dead on arrival.”

Lee’s helper, the 33-year-old Mary Grace Mupada, on the other hand, sustained stab wounds on the stomach, police said.

Mupada, a resident of Pontevedra, Negros Occidental, was currently under treatment at the Corazon Locsin Montelibano Memorial Regional Hospital.

According to investigators, Sevilla went to Lee’s house around 1 a.m. that day.

Sevilla hid in the comfort room to wait for Mupada to open the house, the investigators said.

Lee went out of the house first, though. She opened the comfort room to pee. That was when Sevilla attacked her, added the investigators.

Mupada – upon seeing Lee being stabbed – came out and was attacked, too.

After Sevilla fled, Mupada shouted for help from their neighbors. The neighbors notified the police.

Lee’s mother and 8-year-old son were inside the house sleeping.

Sevilla told the police that he needed money for his sick son that’s why he resorted to robbery.

Sevilla was detained at the Police Station 5 lockup facility and facing robbery with homicide and frustrated homicide charges. (With Mae Singuay/PN)
