SAN JOSE, Antique ā€“ The construction of the new Antique Legislative Building is now ongoing, according to provincial District Engineer Elsie Sabay.

The project involves construction of a three-storey building with the total area of 1,790 square meters, erected adjacent to the old capitol building.

The groundbreaking of the project, which has a P48.458-million budget, was held recently.

Sen. Loren Legarda led the groundbreaking along with Sabay, Department of Public Works and Highways regional assistant director Jose AlFruto and local chief executives.

Sabay said the new building will house the officials and employees of the SangguniangPanlalawigan and other support services.

Once completed, the new building is deemed to provide a safer and more convenient office for provincial capitol officials and workers, thus enhancing the delivery of services to the people.

The old capitol, on the other hand, will be rehabilitated, said Sabay.

The rehabilitation project, which has a P48.178-million budget, aims to preserve the architectural faƧade of the building.

ā€œThe old capitol building will be retrofitted and will serve as library, archive and museum of the province that will showcase the rich cultural heritage of the AntiqueƱos,ā€ Sabay said. (With DPWH-Antique/PN)
