MANILA – Special Assistant to the President Christopher “Bong” Go announced that he would not run for senator in the 2019 elections.
This came a day after President Rodrigo Duterte encouraged him to testify in the investigation into the government’s P15.7-billion frigate deal.
The Senate hearing will give Go a “golden opportunity” for his senatorial bid, the President had said.
Duterte “only mentioned it in jest in view of my demand to the Senate to conduct a full-blown public hearing and get to the bottom of the Frigate controversy,” Go clarified.
“I have dedicated my life to serving PRRD (President Rodrigo Roa Duterte), and I am committed to stand beside him ’til kingdom come,” he added.
Previously the presidential aide said he would attend the hearing to clear his name.
“That’s why I demanded a full-blown Senate public hearing so we can get to the bottom of the issue, to clear my name and to prove that I did not intervene,” Go said./PN
