ILOILO City – The City Population Office and City Civil Registry Office are holding a free mass wedding today at SM City Iloilo. They have registered 91 couples.
Mayor Jose Espinosa III will officiate the civil wedding ceremony timed with the annual Valentine’s Day observance.
The city government will supply the couples’ wedding rings.
“The City Population Office gathered information from the City Civil Registry Office such as how many children here were illegitimate or whose parents were not married yet. From this information, we decided to hold a mass wedding,” said organizer Chytchymua Rejaba.
From what the City Population Office gathered, said Rejaba, some couples found wedding rites too costly.
“So we will sustain this annual mass wedding. Our goal is to really have these couples officially married,” she said.
HEARTS’ DAY
Meanwhile, the city government has suspended the wearing of office uniforms today to allow city hall employees to “wear” their feelings this Valentine’s Day.
“This is our manifestation of support to any activity which in one way or another could provide joy to people and promote camaraderie among city government employees,” said Mayor Espinosa.
City Administrator Hernando Galvez issued Memorandum Circular 018 series of 2018 on the optional wearing of office uniform today.
Galvez noted the numerous requests for suspension of Memorandum Order OCA 16-001 on the wearing of office uniform and a corollary request to allow the wearing of attires with colors to express one’s Valentine feelings.
These colors and their representative feelings are:
* pink – searching
* blue – brokenhearted
* red – in a relationship
* black – “walang love life”
* grey – “muntik na maging kami”
* white – work first
* yellow – single and happy
* green – it’s complicated
* brown – friend zone
* violet – love wins in LGBT
* orange – “move on na tayo bes” (Merianne Grace Ereñeta, Iloilo City PIO/PN)
