BACOLOD City – Authorities confiscated at least 18,790 packs of fake cigarettes from two houses in this city on Thursday.
Of the packs, 2,790 were seized from the house of Adam Mangoda in Barangay 35 while 16,000 were found in an abandoned house in JR Torres Subdivision in Barangay Singcang-Airport.
Bearing fake seals, the packs will be sold for P28 each, cheaper than the original product, according to Eduardo Pagulayan Jr., chief of the Bureau of Internal Revenue’s Negros Occidental office.
Mangoda was arrested following complaints from some cigarette manufacturers.
He is facing charges for illegal possession of excisable products.
Mangoda said he has given the authorities the name of his supplier of fake cigarettes. (Reports from ABS-CBN News/PN)
