BORACAY – Local authorities are on “red alert” cracking down ladyboys who victimize tourists in this island resort.

Ladyboys were involved in 15 theft cases and five physical injury cases in the island since 2016, according to the Boracay Tourist Assistance Center (BTAC).

“Ladyboy” is a colloquial term referring to male transvestites. In Boracay, some ladyboys are working as prostitutes.

BTAC head Senior Inspector Jose Mark Anthony Gesulga urged the Sangguniang Bayan of Malay to tap the Department of Justice to assign prosecutors in Boracay for the fast filing of cases against ladyboys.

According to Gesulga, 11 ladyboys were also nabbed in their antidrug operations in 2016.

Gesulga also urged hotel and resort owners in the island to restrict ladyboys doing illegal activities in their facilities.

Municipal Ordinance No. 160 series of 2002 prohibits any individual or establishment to practice, facilitate or engage prostitution in Malay, Aklan.

(Aklan Forum Journal/PN)
