NEGROS Occidental secondary girls volleyball team manager Jose Montalbo insisted that he did nothing wrong to a Central Philippine University (CPU) professor during a 2018 WVRAA Meet volleyball game.

Montalbo admitted to Panay News that he had a heated exchange with Dr. Nicholas Guanzon Jr. but stressed that he did not humiliate him, as what the latter claimed.

“I must admit nagkasigawan kami, nagkapalitan ng hindi magagandang salita, dahil na rin siguro sa init noong sitwasyon, pero hindi ko siya ipinahiya. I had no intention to do that,” Montalbo said.

All Montalbo did, he claimed, was ask Guanzon not to block his view. Apparently the CPU professor did not hear him, so he “rolled an empty mineral water bottle to his foot to call his attention.”

“Maybe dahil na rin sa ingay noong venue kaya hindi niya ako narinig pero madaming beses kong tinatawag iyong attention niya dahil nakaharang siya sa view,” Montalbo said.

Doon na nagsimula ang argument namin, but after that, I was apologizing to him pero ayaw niya dahil nga ipinahiya ko raw siya,” Montalbo said. “I just hope that ma-resolve na ito the soonest possible.”

A CPU official, who requested anonymity, contradicted Montalbo in a separate interview, saying the Negros team manager “was already shouting at will” even before his encounter with Guanzon.

“It was Sir Montalbo’s right naman to defend himself but there are eyewitnesses saying otherwise,” said the CPU official. “We are also hoping that this issue will be settled na rin.”/PN
