ILOILO City – The City Social Welfare and Development Office (CSWDO) distributed educational assistance to 90 elementary and high school street children and 22 college scholars.

The college scholars were given P5,000 each as allowance for the second semester of school year 2017-2018.

Meanwhile, each of the 20 elementary and high school student beneficiaries from Arevalo district got P2,250.

A similar amount was also given to 15 beneficiaries from La Paz district, 14 each from Molo, Mandurriao, and Jaro; and 13 from the City Proper.

The distribution was conduct at the CSWDO Gym in Molo on Feb. 21.

Mayor Jose Espinosa III said poor but deserving students must finish basic education and even college.

“This program of city government through CSWDO Taskforce on Street Children gives less-fortunate youth a chance to pursue their studies despite poverty. The amount will be used for their school allowances and projects,” said Espinosa.

Merlyn Gison, focal person for child and youth welfare of the Iloilo City Council for the Protection of Children, expressed hope that with the city government’s support, the beneficiaries “will be inspired to strive harder for their future.” (Iloilo City PIO/PN)
